5 Advantages of Online Education

Being physically present in a classroom is not the only educational option today, thanks to computers and the internet. The quality of online education is constantly improving and it offers great benefits in terms of cost and flexibility.

Hiring managers are recognizing the value of online degrees that come from accredited institutions. This alternative to traditional education may not be for everyone, but it is a convenient, flexible option with many options for students worldwide.

Within the next generation, online education is likely to evolve even more and become one of the most common ways to pursue an education.

  1. Accessible from anywhere

As long as students have a computer and internet access, the possibility of educating themselves is at their fingertips, no matter where they live in the world. Even prestigious schools, like Stanford, Harvard and MIT, offer massive open online courses (MOOCs) that allow students to study non-credit materials for free.

A growing number of higher education schools and universities are offering online versions of their programs. Students have a wide variety to choose from and can get an official diploma, certificate, or degree without having to physically set foot on campus.

Abraham Lincoln University (ALU) is one of the nation’s first online law schools and gives students the chance to earn a Juris Doctor Degree in an affordable and flexible way.

  1. More interaction

Today many traditional institutions offer online learning options and students may have the opportunity to experience small classes with more one-to-one interactions with professors.

A California State University study compared online students with those who went to class. They were instructed by the same professor and performed equally well. However, the online students seemed less intimidated and there was more interaction between them and the professor.

Online tutors are able to use diverse materials, like eBooks and videos, as well as integrate other formats, like discussions or forums, to improve their lessons.

  1. Frequent feedback and technological competence

An online learning approach may well suit students who battle in a traditional classroom setting. Online students generally complete more assessments. This enables professors to monitor competence, find gaps in their knowledge and address them quickly.

In a traditional classroom, a student may hide in the back corner and struggle along until taking exams. The longer it takes to pick up gaps in knowledge, the more difficult it becomes to address them.

When learning online, students also become adept at technology for messaging, video conferencing, gathering information and collaborating. Being adept at such technology is a skill set that can be of great benefit in today’s workforce.

  1. Less student loan debt

As well as not having to pay for board or commuting, there is another way in which online studying has financial benefits. Most online programs take into account that students are employed, maybe even on a full-time basis.

It is often possible for students to take out a smaller student loan if they are working while studying. This means they pay less interest and reduce future debt. Many people take as long as 20 years to pay off student loan debt so this offers a considerable advantage.

  1. More control over a schedule

Online learning is more flexible and students can work through the material as quickly or slowly as suits them. Some may take longer to grasp the material and take more time, whereas others may work faster.

Some programs may require students to participate in lectures at certain times but they are usually archived for future reference. For people who work full-time or have childcare responsibilities, the advantage of a flexible schedule is a major asset.
